Velcryn Gems x Ecologi + Shopify Planet: Our Commitment to the Earth

Gems are not "materials." They're the Earth's handwriting. Pressure, time, heat, and a little planetary drama turned into something you can hold.

Velcryn Gems is witch-meets-luxury. It is also a business built on geology. Which means we do not get to treat the planet like a decorative backdrop.

So we built our climate commitment in two lanes:

1. Ecologi, where we fund verified climate and restoration work with traceable evidence.
2. Shopify Planet, where we make our shipping carbon neutral by funding carbon removal matched to our deliveries.

This is not "we planted a tree so we're done here." This is a real commitment to doing better while we build something beautiful.

Why Ecologi

I chose Ecologi for one big reason: transparency.

Ecologi supports verified climate solutions and publishes evidence for funded impact through a public ledger and retirement documentation. In other words, it comes with receipts, not slogans.

What Ecologi Supports

Ecologi supports a mix of climate solutions, including reforestation and habitat restoration, plus verified carbon avoidance and carbon removal projects.

That matters because climate work is not one thing. Some projects prevent emissions. Some remove carbon. Some restore ecosystems. Many do multiple jobs at once. The Earth is a complicated machine. We respect her complexity.

Trees Are Sacred. They Are Not a Magic Eraser.

Tree planting has real ecological and community value. But it is not a magic eraser.

Ecologi is very clear about this: their tree planting is not used to "offset" emissions. When emissions are being matched, that is done through verified carbon avoidance or removal projects, with retirement evidence published for accountability.

That is the lane we're in. Verified work, evidenced work, not vibes-based greenwashing.

Shopify Planet: Carbon-Neutral Shipping

Shipping creates emissions. That part is real, even when you ship thoughtfully.

Shopify Planet addresses the shipping piece by estimating the emissions associated with deliveries and funding carbon removal to match that impact. Planet uses shipment and tracking data when available to calculate emissions more accurately. When data is missing, it intentionally errs on the side of accounting for more rather than less.

Depending on how we have Planet configured in our checkout, we may cover carbon-neutral shipping automatically, invite you to contribute at checkout, or both.

What This Means at Velcryn Gems

Our commitment has three parts:

1. We fund verified climate and restoration work through Ecologi.
2. We fund carbon removal for shipping emissions through Shopify Planet.
3. We reduce where we can, because "neutral" without reduction is just paying a fee to keep doing the same thing.

Practically, that looks like:

• One-of-a-kind pieces and small, intentional releases (less overproduction, less waste).
• Durable craftsmanship (the most sustainable jewelry is the jewelry you keep).
• Packaging that feels like ritual, not landfill, with reusable presentation pieces and plantable paper where possible.

This is ongoing work. Some improvements are easy and immediate. Others take time, vendor changes, and stubborn persistence.
