Aphrodite’s Spark Rough Red Spinel (Burma) is a one carat natural rough spinel presented in a sealed glass vial. Each vial contains untreated red spinel gems (Burma) selected for color intensity, clarity flashes, and natural crystal structure. The stones remain in their natural rough state rather than being cut or polished, preserving the original form created during geological growth.

The vial is sealed with wax and presented inside a soft pink velvet pouch finished with a handwritten label identifying the stone and qualities. The presentation protects the mineral while allowing the spinel to remain visible as a small mineral specimen.

Spinel is a magnesium aluminum oxide mineral with the chemical formula MgAl₂O₄. It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system and is known for producing sharp crystal faces and exceptional color saturation when trace elements are present. Red spinel develops its coloration primarily through chromium substitution within the crystal lattice, producing the deep red tones historically mistaken for ruby in royal collections and historic crown jewels.

Unlike ruby, which is a variety of corundum, spinel forms as a separate mineral species within metamorphic marble and certain igneous environments. Many historic gemstones once believed to be rubies, including famous crown jewels, were later identified as red spinel due to advances in mineral identification.

Spinel ranks approximately 8 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it one of the harder naturally occurring gemstone minerals. While the stones in this vial are rough rather than faceted, the mineral itself is valued for both gem cutting and mineral specimen collecting.
